Many of you are using some RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client to use Microsoft Windows servers on the cloud. With our new cloud-based desktop service to use MLXchange on iPad, iPod and other mobile devices, users need to use an app to connect.
We are going to review these 3 apps that we have used to connect. Two of them are free and the last one costs just $15. (Plot spoiler alert: The best cloud client is the non-free one.)
1. Mocha Lite – free
Mocha Lite has a great little VNC hook up that we mentioned in this article about hooking up to MLXchange on your computer.
This is a free app that works great. The mouse controls are precise and the screens all work well. If you are using VNC or RDP to connect to your own computer, this works just fine.
When we tried to use this to connect to our cloud-based desktop, there are some sort of login issues. The server seemed to flip out for some reason when we used Mocha lite. Our sessions wouldn’t log-out correctly either. At this time, we are not recommending this app for our service that allows Windows programs run on iPad, Android or other mobile devices.
2. WYSE PocketCloud – free
This is a very nice free app. It has some in-app advertisements, that don’t seem very intrusive. The ads only show up when you are logging in.
The problem with the free version is that WYSE has crippled the app to just have one screen setting. This screen setting doesn’t work well for MLXchange on iPad, but it might work well for other apps. The mouse controls are nice and precise.
We really like this app and recommend it to folks as a first choice for a free app. If you are using one of our demo accounts, we recommend you use this app to try it out. We also have a 5 day money-back guarantee. During this trial period, you may want to use this app.
3. WYSE Pocket Cloud Pro – $15
This is the boss. There are some very nice reviews on the Apple iTunes App Store about how wonderful this app is. It works great and is just very easy to configure and setup. The mouse controls are VERY precise and work very smoothly. There are even some extra mouse controls and combined key commands that work great.
The only weakness I have found with this app is the lack of a “tab” key. When I am using MLXchange on my iPad, I like to have a “tab” key to move between the search fields on MLXchange’s search pages.
